Choices

I have read much opposition to McDonald’s opening in Castlemaine.
I would just ask who objected when the Hunt and Lobb building (the historic Ford dealership) was pulled down in this same space? Where was the opposition to the latest fast food outlet that opened?
How healthy are our fish and chips, pizza outlets? No one makes complaints about those unhealthy choices and the obesity issue. I’ve had my share of them, learned as I got older and changed my choices.
Neither do I read about opposition to all the liquor establishments currently open in town.
I would think that alcohol has a much more debilitating effect than McDonald’s, with alcohol causing untold family violence.
Another retail giant also opened here recently and I heard nothing.
Many struggling families like to go out for a meal, but prices are very high at many places. McDonald’s makes a cheaper alternative.
Everyone has a choice, drink, or not, enter a McDonald’s establishment, or not.
At the very least, McDonald’s also have healthy alternatives, much alcohol does not.
As parents we teach our children about those choices and guide them accordingly.
They accept or deny them, that’s part of being a parent.
These are our choices. Compared to the number of liquor outlets here, you can keep arguing about McDonald’s or use your unhappiness to argue for less alcohol outlets.
It doesn’t matter to me if McDonald’s opens or not. And yes, I will probably go there now and then. But let’s have a balanced conversation.
Look up Ronald McDonald House. Many families and children in our community have been helped by them.
One final question.
Is this opposition about obesity, fast food or attacking multi-nationals? The first two are knocked aside as I have stated earlier.
