The Castlemaine Mail has been proudly covering local news in the Mount Alexander Shire community for 169 years. Formerly known as the Mount Alexander Mail the newspaper was founded in 1854 and began covering life on the goldfields and in the developing Castlemaine and surrounds. Since then our paper has continued to serve the local community through wars, pandemics, droughts, floods and fires bringing locals the latest local news, community news and sport.
The Mount Alexander Shire is extremely diverse and home to talented artisans and craftspeople, industry and manufacturing and an extensive range of small businesses and producers. Our richly talented local community provides countless stories worthy of coverage.
The Castlemaine Mail covers the Mount Alexander Shire including Campbells Creek, Castlemaine, Chewton, Elphinstone, Guildford, Harcourt, Kyneton, Maldon and Newstead.
The Jaara people of the Dja Dja Wurrung are the custodians of the land and waters on which we live and work. We pay our respects to the Elders past, present and emerging.
