The Castlemaine Rural Australians for Refugees (RAR) group has a long tradition of holding events to celebrate Refugee Week, which this year is from June 18 to 24.
You may have attended some of these awareness-raising and social events in previous years. They have included an array of interesting guest speakers, some fabulous concerts, children’s activities, and community meals.
Refugee Week highlights the contributions refugees bring to our community, as well as focusing on the current needs and challenges of those seeking asylum. Funds raised by RAR Castlemaine during the week are forwarded to a specific refugee project. Last year we raised $2,500, which assisted the recently released Park Hotel detainees with basic necessities of food and accommodation.
We are seeking interested volunteers to contribute ideas and time to help organise events for Refugee Week. We want to continue the Castlemaine tradition of an inspiring and successful week, but we need help to make this happen.
Please come along to The Red Room at the Five Flags Hotel, Campbells Creek on Thursday, April 27 at 7 pm if you can, so we can get the ball rolling for 2023.
For further information or assistance with transport, please email rarcastlemaine@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you there!
