Maldon’s 147th Easter Fair

The Maldon Easter Fair, celebrated every year since its inception in 1877, is the the only continuously running Easter Fair in Australia.

Since 1927, the Tarrengower Tower has been illuminated every year, serving as a beacon and warm welcome to Maldon at Easter.

Over the years, generations of local children have grown up believing that the highest point of the tower is the home of the Easter Bunny.

To begin the five-day-festival, the tower lights will be lit later this evening, while everyone gathers for the inaugural Great Aussie Scone Bake Competition.

On Friday, congregations will gather for a combined church service at the Beehive Chimney, and visitors will be welcomed to the Vintage Engine Rally at the Vintage Machinery Museum, open every day until Monday.

On Saturday, go for a wander around the Easter Market at the Beehive Chimney or join the ever-popular Hole in One Competition at Maldon Golf Club running until Sunday, with a huge cash prize of $2000 up for grabs.

The return of the Torchlight Parade, followed by Dancing in the Street on Saturday night, is always a huge hit, with hundreds of locals and visitors taking to historic Main Street to follow the skilled dance moves of David Skinner.

David will walk them through the dance steps of the Macarena, the Chicken Dance and Gangnam Style.

On Sunday, head down to the billy cart races and watch as contestants brave the steep hill on Vincents Road as parents and onlookers cheer from the sidelines, or watch a movie at the Museum.

Don’t miss the Grand Procession on Monday morning, with an incredible display of floats, cars, bikes and of course, the big guy himself! Get there early as the street fills up fast! Visit www.facebook.com/maldoneasterfair to view the full program.
