The Castlemaine Men’s Shed is holding a Garage Sale Fundraiser this Saturday June 7 to raise funds for the shed’s ongoing work. The local men’s shed was established in 2014 as a place where local men could gather each week in a safe and busy environment and in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship.
Castlemaine Men’s Shed president Brian McCormick said members of Men’s Sheds come from all walks of life. “The bond that unites them is that they are men with time on their hands and would like something meaningful to do with that time,” he said.
The Shed supports numerous community activities such as building seats or other small structures for the local Council, repairing furniture or other items for the community including older men and women and support for crisis events like bushfires. The shed really provides a much needed welcoming supportive environment for men in the community who have retired, suffer ill health or
have lost their partners.
The Men’s Shed doesn’t receive Government funding so we depend on donations, memberships and small payments in return for repair work or other tasks the men are able to complete. The challenge here is to ensure there are enough funds to cover running and maintenance costs.
To raise funds for their work the Shed is having a garage sale this Saturday June 7 from 8am at their premises at 42 Wimble Street (behind the Mt Alexander Golf Club). Items for sale include bandsaw, dining room cabinet, a solid workbench with vice, tools, hardware, wooden toys and other incidentals. Get along and show your support for this fantastic local group.

A range of furniture and other household items will be for sale.
