Central Goldfields Art Gallery will host an inspiring afternoon of music, storytelling and community participation featuring renowned local musician, choir leader and community music specialist James Rigby this Sunday August 30.
For more than 25 years, James has worked as a fulltime performer and community musician, earning a reputation as one of Central Victoria’s leading choir directors and music educators.
Since 2000, he has specialised in community choir leadership, vocal repertoire and musical arranging, sharing his passion for singing with people of all ages and abilities.
In this special performance, James will present a curated selection of songs that reflect the country we live in and the communities that have shaped it.
The program draws on contemporary Australian songwriters, colonial goldfields era composers and First Nations songwriters, creating a musical journey through Australia’s cultural heritage and shared history.
Mayor Cr Ben Green said the event reflects the shire’s commitment to celebrating local creativity and connection.
“James Rigby has spent decades bringing people together through music, and we’re delighted to welcome him to our gallery. Events like this strengthen community spirit and showcase the rich cultural heritage of our region,” he said.
Accompanying himself on guitar, James may also perform traditional dance tunes celebrating the district’s Swiss Italian heritage on fiddle and mandolin, showcasing the diverse musical traditions that have influenced the region.
This event is proudly supported by Maryborough U3A, reflecting a shared commitment to lifelong learning, creativity and bringing the community together through the arts.
James Rigby – Songs of Country, Community and Heritage will take place between 2pm-3pm at the gallery at the Old Fire Station, 1 Neill Street, Maryborough.
Tickets are $15 General Admission, $10 Concession and Seniors Card holders, Free for people under 18 years.
