21 years of art

lot19 artspace is set to celebrate its 21st Birthday from today, November 15, with the launch of a special celebratory exhibition '21 on 19'. The exhibition features works by 21 artists which have played a special role in life of the beloved arts venue. lot19 founder Mark Anstey said he is feeling quite emotional about today's milestone celebration. "I feel as though my 'child' evolved into a fully fledged adult. It has been a hard thing to 'parent' at times. But the space has really evolved and developed taking on a life of its own. The community has now taken ownership of the not-for-profit space and embraced it with open arms. I couldn't be more proud," he said. "As I always say lot19 was created to celebrate life, and I think when you look back over the last 21 years you can certainly agree it has done that." Tonight's '21 on 19' exhibition opens at 5.30pm and is part of a series of events which will wrap up the anniversary year including an Open Day this Sunday November 17 which will feature open studios, a free workshop with Castlemaine Circus, Castlemaine Clay Great Pottery Throwdown and market, and demonstrations and sales by Castlemaine Press. lot19 is also excited to be hosting its inaugural Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) Fiesta on Saturday November 23, and the lot19 Long Lunch experience 'Meal of Fortune' on Sunday December 1.
