Along side a busy game day schedule at Chewton, Castlemaine Goldfields Football Club’s juniors have all been enjoying World Cup Fever. The Goldfields lucky six FIFA Flag bearers will make their way to Melbourne Rectangular Stadium this Sunday August 6 for the Round of 16 game between Sweden and USA for what should be an amazing moment for the players and our club on the global stage.
This Saturday sees seven home games across the juniors form U10s through to U16s it what should be another great day for all.
Small Sided is well underway, and we are also running Come and Play Sessions each Wednesday (5-6pm) for any Girls/Non-Binary players aged 10-14 interested in having a kick since the WC has kicked off. For both these programs contact cgfcsecretary@gmail.com for more info.

The Castlemaine Goldfields Football Club’s Under 14A Mixed side welcomed the Kyneton Rangers to Chewton Soldiers Memorial Park last Saturday July 29 in round 12 of the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League competition.
The Rangers made the most of their opportunities in the first half and were rewarded with a goal to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the second half the Goldfields broke through to get an important goal on the board from the boot of C. Collins and edge their way back into the match. However, the Rangers continued to battle hard and scored a second goal to take the points.
In the local derby Castlemaine Goldfields Under 12A Green and Gold went head to head. Both sides showed plenty of class and booted three goals each to end the day with a well deserved draw and share the spoils.
In Under 12B Goldfields White had a tough day on the park going down 9-0 to the Spring Gully Jets, whilst Under 12B Black also had a challenging day falling to the Spring Gully Giants 6-1 at Stanley Avenue.
The Under 12 Matildas lost to Kyneton 5-3 in a high scoring clash.
Goldfields Under 14 B made the trek to Moama and were rewarded with a fantastic 5-4 win over the Border Vikings in a nailbiter. The Under 14 Matildas drew with Swan Hill 1-1 in a classy battle.
Under 16A took the points from the Border Vikings on forfeit and 16B lost to Epsom 3-1 in a challenging showdown at Chewton. The Under 16 Matildas 1 defeated the Spring Gully Renegades 0.

Youth and Seniors

Once again Goldfields had all four teams in action on the weekend with a mix of results but some great football played all-round. CGFC Youth team played away to Tatura. Undermanned but not out played the ‘Prospects’ conceded a sloppy goal in the first half then rallying to dominate play but were unable to force a way through the solid Tatura backline.
They came back into the game Creating a direct opportunity for Lincoln in the second half who finished cleanly and held the 1-1 scoreline until late in the game when a hopeful Tatura long free kick was headed across goal to an open attacker. Tatura held out for a 2-1 win fantastic team play and mature showing left the Youth team disappointment not to collect at least a point in the run in to finals.
The Women travelled to Epsom on Saturday taking out a comprehensive 7-1 win, stand out on the day with four goals was Violet Thoma. The win sees the Women take a strong hold on 4th spot in the ladder going into this weekends game vs top of the ladder Kyneton. After there recent cup performance the team will be hoping to take their A game and come away with the strong performance their recent efforts deserve.
In the Metro Men’s comp the Div 7s couldn’t hold on to continue their run of recent win, taking on 2nd placed Wyndham they only to lost with 2 mins to go, having been 1 nil up to late in the game. This week they are at home at 1pm to top of the table Albert Park SC looking to pull of a big upset, that could yet see them move into the top 4 if other results go their way.
In Div 5 Castlemaine  travelled to Melbourne to take on RMIT trying to complete the double against a team that has caused the Maine difficulty in previous seasons. Playing on a narrow pitch against a physically niggly side in windy conditions, Maine could be excused if their usually controlled build up was disrupted. However this was not the case as Maine put on one of their best all-round performances, mixing high pressure defense with variety in attack. Three goals in the first half were followed by 4 in the second half, with all players impressing coach and keeper Dave Gunter. Lemuel scored 2 goals to continue his rich vein of goal scoring, Kyan played several positions with confidence, and Mike Jones marked his return from injury with a nicely taken free kick.
Now up to second on the table, Maine will confidently set their sights high knowing that their best, if produced consistently, is good enough to beat anyone. This weekend they travel to 5th placed Brunswick Zebras looking to close the gap on top spot to two points.

World Cup fever continues

This Mondays August 7 Matildas round of 16 clash with Denmark will be shown at the Theatre Royal for what should be another huge night for a local Football community. Please come down from 6pm (8:30pm kick-off) and show your support for both the Matildas and your local club and the awesome venue that is the Theatre. This is a free to enter event, with food and drinks on sale from the Theatre.
