Castlemaine Golf Club news

Thirty eight players braved the summer heat to compete in a Stableford round at Castlemaine Golf Club last Thursday.

Kerin Lourey (12) stole the spotlight, finishing with an impressive 40 points to secure both the overall top position and the A Grade title.

Greg Crowe (10) followed closely as the A Grade runner-up with a solid 37 points.

In B Grade, Samuel Grimes (16) claimed victory with 38 points, finishing two ahead of Ian Fraser (18), who posted a strong 36 points.

Over in C Grade, Trevor Bray (23) emerged victorious with 38 points, narrowly edging out Malcolm McKellar (24), who finished on 36.

Notable highlights included Klai Jermyn’s standout performance with five birdies on the day, while Jeremy Bottomley, Samuel Grimes, and Nathan Domanski each managed two.

Jeremy Bottomley rounded out his day with a sweep of the Nearest the Pin awards, claiming both designated holes.On Saturday morning, the skies cleared, and the sun made a timely appearance just as the 9 @ 9 competition teed off.

Despite the muggy conditions, nine determined players took to the course.

The standout of the day was Kevin Adams (20), who clinched victory with an impressive 18 points.

Close behind was his playing partner, George Gray (25), who put in a solid performance to finish with 16 points.

Saturday’s competition saw some outstanding performances, with Peter McCoombe (11) taking home the December Monthly Medal after a brilliant score of nett 68.

This effort also secured him the A Grade win.

Close behind was Jason Thompson (2), who delivered an impressive nett 70 to claim runner-up honours in A Grade.

In B Grade, Ross Stevens (13) made a return to the winner’s circle, posting a nett 74, narrowly edging out Leon Thomas(13), who finished just one shot behind with a nett 75.

C Grade witnessed a fantastic performance from Peter Mangold (26), who’s nett 70 earned him a comfortable three-shot victory over Rod Entwistle (18), who carded a nett 73.

Only 13 birdies were recorded across the field, with Ian Gilmore the standout, being the sole player to record multiple birdies.

NTP honours went to Mark Brackly on the 7th hole and Marie Louise Fitzpatrick on the 12th.

On Tuesday, the ladies embraced the festive spirit with a fun-filled Christmas celebration on the course, playing a challenging ‘Drop Out Ambrose’ game with an added twist—they were limited to just three clubs! The winning team of Carmel Cribbes, Helen Skinner, and Glenda Jefferies delivered an impressive performance, finishing with a fantastic score of 73.33.

Close behind, securing the runner-up spot with a commendable score of 77.33, were Jan Barratt, Helen McEwen, and Kay Francis.

Following the game, the ladies enjoyed a delightful spread of Christmas treats, sharing in the joy and camaraderie of the season.
