A long road to recovery

Janet Trotter and Bill West. Janet remains in intensive care after sustaining serious injuries.

A Go Fund Me appeal has been set up to assist a Campbells Creek couple with a costly vet bill for surgery that saved their dog’s life.

Janet Trotter and Bill West and their dogs, Moomoo and Stretch, were involved in a two-car collision in Castlemaine on February 8.

Emergency services successfully extricated Janet and the two injured dogs from the vehicle and Janet, who had sustained upper body injuries, was transported to Bendigo Hospital via road ambulance. She was later airlifted to Melbourne for emergency treatment. Two kind passers by took the dogs to a veterinary clinic but Stretch did not survive.

Moomoo, who was also seriously injured in the crash, required emergency life-saving surgery, which cost $9000.

One month on, Janet remains in intensive care having undergone multiple surgeries. She is facing a long and challenging recovery.

Moomoo is home recovering with Bill and is now able to walk short distances each day.

Concerned about his much-loved regulars, Toby Rice from Five Flags Merchants has set up a Go Fund Me page to help the pair with the financial strain of Moomoo’s vet bill.

In less than two weeks, 88 people have donated to the fund, raising almost $7000.
