
A large number of Castlemaine Rifle Club members contested the second stage of the Club Championship on Saturday.
It was a cold day with a light, quickly changing breeze that shooters needed to watch to avoid losing points. Shooting was over the middle distances of 500 and 600 yards.
The day started from the 500 yard mound with 10 shots to count. Greg Brown started well in ‘Target Rifle’ scoring 49.5, followed by Chris Jolme who was 47.2.
The leader in ‘F Class’ was Kerri Neven with 58.5, from James Dolphin with 56.2.
In ‘F Open’, Tony Skinner was the leader with 57.3 from Shannon King with 56.5.
The next range was 600 yards with 11 shots to count. In Target Rifle Greg Brown scored 53.3 to lead Richard Ruddick with 50.3.
Kerri Neven again shot well in F Class, scoring 62.4, followed by James Dolphin with 59.4.
Tony Skinner continued his good form in ‘F Open’ with 65.3, with Shannon King next with 63.3.
Final scores for the day saw Greg Brown win in Target Rifle with 102.8, first Chris Jolme with 97.4 and Richard Ruddick with 96.3.
Chris won the handicap from Richard.
The winner in F Class was Kerri Neven with 120.7, followed by James Dolphin with 115.6 and Sam Swagemakers with 111.4.
James won the handicap from Sam.
In F Open Tony Skinner was the winner with an excellent 124.6 from Shannon King with 119.6 and Tom Christie with 110.3. Shannon won the handicap from Tom.
Our newer members, Ghangir Esen, Sacha Knock and Lee Swatton, are gaining experience with their scores improving.
Next weekend is the third round of the Victorian Precision Service Rifle Championships to be held at the local range. This is a very popular event with competitors from interstate, as well as Victoria, taking part in two days of competition.
