Authors in the spotlight

Local authors, Kirsten Krauth and Tom Robb, will be among the talented writers to feature in Books in the Brewery’s action-packed Christmas Extravaganza literary event to close 2024.

The event hosted by Northern Books next Wednesday evening, December 18, will take place at the extraordinary new Taproom space at Shedshaker Brewing at The Mill Castlemaine which is the perfect place to celebrate all things books, writers, stories and storytelling.

Northern Books Kristin Gill said for those who were lucky enough to join them for the 2023 Christmas Extravaganza, you will know that this is a celebration of our literary year, of events that have made us laugh, cry, think a bit harder, ponder and engage with some of the best in the business.

“The 2024 Extravaganza promises more of the same as we welcome bestselling author Rosalie Ham, local memoirist and legendary costume designer Tom Robb, and a panel of contributors from the music anthology of the year, Spinning Around. That panel will be made up of Kirsten Krauth (Anthology editor), Nathan Curnow, Chris Flynn, Christos Tsiolkas, Lucy Treloar and chaired once again by Angela Savage who is also a contributor. This promises to be a very Kylie Christmas!”

Kirsten Krauth is a highly regarded and best-selling author.

Kirsten has also made significant name for herself as a writer and editor of music-based anthologies.

Australian icon Kylie Minogue is the musical muse for this sparkling new anthology. Twenty-four writers, a third of whom identify as LGBTQIA+, used a Kylie Minogue song as the springboard for a new, original piece of work, covering the genres of crime, memoir, speculative fiction, poetry and science fiction – from Kylie’s 1987 release ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ all the way through to her newest album ‘Tension’.

Tom Robb’s memoir From The Top is a stunning showcase of his life as one of Australia’s leading costume designers and show producers during the 70’s.

From The Top is a moving and inspiring tale of a young man and his journey from Ballarat, Australia, to the international stage where he and his partner Luis Moreno, produced showstopping Moulin Rouge and Las Vegas style extravaganzas in big cities, mixed with stars of the stage and screen and travelled the world in what could only be described as a tour de force.

Robb delivers a warm, honest and fascinating story of a bygone era in show business and reflects on how it was to grow up as a gay man in Australia in the second half of the twentieth Century.

At its heart, this is a love story – you’ll laugh, cry and simply won’t want to miss a word.

The Christmas Extravaganza will run from 5.30pm-9.30pm. To book visit https://www.northernbooks.com.au/christmas-24

Best of all your ticket includes a $20 voucher so that you can finish off any last-minute Christmas shopping!

A legacy for future generations
