Falls talks at Newstead and Castlemaine

Hot on the heels of a recent talk in Harcourt on falls, Dhelkaya Health’s falls expert is back.
Exercise physiologist Rebecca Dine has added two more dates to the calendar to help spread the word about falls, how to prevent them and how to assist someone who has fallen.
The two new sessions will be held at the Newstead Rural Transaction Centre tomorrow, Thursday October 31 from 11am for a 11.30am start, and at Dhelkaya Health (Castlemaine Hospital auditorium) on Thursday November 14 at 10.30am for an 11am start.
These vital sessions will help attendees learn more about why falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalisations and deaths in Australia, accounting for a staggering 43% of injury hospitalisations and 42% of injury deaths.
As we age, the risk of falling, particularly at home, increases significantly so you’ll hear tips to help enhance your own safety and those of your friends and family.
No bookings are required—just come along and bring your friends and family. Let’s work together to create a safer community!
For more details call Dhelkaya Health on 5479 1000 and ask for Jennifer Miko or Rebecca Dine.

Magic Lantern slide show

Ruth Giddings has a series of comedic agricultural slides by illustrator Heath Robinson from around 1910-1920’s. Her son-in-law is a professional cider maker, so she had the one shown in the photo blown up for him.

The Castlemaine Historical Society will be featuring a Magic Lantern slide show at this Monday’s meeting, November 4.

The magic lantern is a predecessor of the projector, and was commonly used from the 18th -20th century.

Guest speaker Darron Davies is a local magic lantern enthusiast who will speak about the history of the lantern.

The slide show will feature more than 50 slides, from the 1880’s to 1990’s with varying scenes including one slide of the Sydney Harbour before the bridge was built.

Monthly meeting 7.30pm on Monday November 4.

At the Former Court House, 7 Goldsmith Crescent, Castlemaine.

Country artist to visit

Award-winning country artist Fanny Lumsden is set to visit Castlemaine’s Maurocco Bar in Templeton Street this Thursday evening October 31. Lumsden has just embarked on a one-of-a-kind tour, STORY CLUB, which offers fans an intimate look into her life, music, and the stories that shaped her songs. Following the massive success of her latest ARIA award winning album Hey Dawn, Fanny is taking a different approach with these special shows.
“STORY CLUB is like a book club for songs, where we get to chat as if we’re sitting around the kitchen table, sharing stories and playing music. I can’t wait!” Fanny said.
If you have been to a Fanny Lumsden show before, you’ll know there is always a story attached to the song. But with STORY CLUB, fans will experience a stripped-back version of her conversational performance, as she deep-dives into the inspiration behind tracks from her last four albums, including ARIA-winning albums Hey Dawn and Fallow. For tickets visit https://www.fannylumsden.net/story-club-tour-tickets
